Krista YoungI grew up in Seattle, Washington with my parents and three younger brothers. I moved to Tucson in January 1997 to attend college at the University of Arizona. I met my husband in a chemistry class (cue the bad puns!) and have never left the Sonoran desert since. My husband and I have two wonderful boys, three rowdy dogs, and one snake. I enjoy getting outdoors with my family, reading, and learning about science!

Background |
I received a BS in Chemistry from the University of Arizona, as an undergraduate I worked for three years in a biochemistry lab working on protein expression, purification and crystallography. After graduation I did a short summer stint at Raytheon Missile Systems as a chemist in their chemical analysis lab. I decided to return back to the UA to pursue doctoral work in Chemistry. I started out in Physical/Analytical chemistry working on characterizing electron transport in organic (carbon-based) electronic devices, but my passion for education soon found me doing chemical education research. After graduating with a master's in Chemistry I taught chemistry as an adjunct professor at Pima Community College. I took a break from teaching college a few years ago to be more involved with my own children's education. Serendipity struck with a job opening at my sons' school and I began teaching the weekly science lab for grades 1-6. Serendipity struck again when the middle school science teaching position opened up at TCDS. I am excited to venture into the middle school years and to have the chance to work at such an amazing campus.
